Donna
Davies, Author
BIO:
Hudson Valley, NY resident Donna Davies, dubbed
the “Halloween Queen,”
divides her time between authoring children’s
books, lecturing to both adults and children, and
curating several web sites dedicated to the holiday.
Ms. Davies’ first picture book for children,
The Halloween Queen Who Lost Her Scream and Sleepy
Hollow and the Road You'd Better Not Follow, thrilled
audiences from 6 to 60 upon its release last October
and earned her numerous opportunities to present
the book at libraries and schools across the region.
She will be releasing her third children’s
Halloween book, "Night of the Candy Creepers";
following with a ghostly Christmas book, "
A Mostly Ghostly Christmas" through her publishing
company All Hallows Eve Press .
Sleepy Hollow and the Road You'd Better Not Follow
is inspired by Washington Irving’s 1820 short
story, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,”
and her personal experiences in the Sleepy Hollow
Cemetery one fall evening, Davies’ book is
a rhyming story from the heart. “The Headless
Horseman has always been my favorite Halloween hero;
he isn’t bad, just a little scary when confronted.
After noticing that few children’s books touched
on his tale in a way they could connect with, I
decided to rectify that,” she explains with
a grin fit for a jack-o-lantern. With ghoulish giggle,
Ms. Davies shares a secret, "All my stories
come from personal experiences in my life--from
a tiny trick or treater to an adult candy creeper."
A staunch supporter of local libraries and historical
societies, Ms.
Davies is an active member of the Sleepy Hollow
Cemetery Historical Board and curates the Hudson
Valley Halloween Magazine as an “en-spook-lopedia”
of all things grim and ghoulish in the area.
Ms. Davies offers a Halloween Story Time presentation
of all her books and is available to visit your
local haunt on kids' day.
